4pm-leave for crabtree falls
5pm-arrive, as does the rain
5:30pm-set up camp, rains on and off
6-7pm-eat, explore a bit
7pm-put hutch to bed
7:01pm-downpour begins
9ish pm-thunderstorm begins. hutch wakes up.
10ish pm-the slow drip in the tent begins
11ishpm-inside of the tent drenched, but less drenched than outside
1am-alex calls the trip. hutch and i join the dogs in the 4runner,
alex spends half an hour breaking down camp (husband and father of the year)
3am-home sweet home
best night of his life award-hutch. was awake and giddy from 9pm-3am. he jumped around the tent like popcorn in a popper. hence the roof of the tent stuck to the fly and the dripping started. however, between time outside and getting to be a night owl, he was in love with camping.
worst night of his life award-devo. thundertstorms and fourth of july are devo's worst nightmare. at 1am, we found him shaking and wedged underneath the steering wheel. he is not a small dog.
i had been warned about the jehle camping curse. i'm a believer

monticello
is ten minutes from our house,
but prior to that is a trailhead
you can take as
an alternate route to
ol' thomas j's homestead.
we've logged a lot of time/miles running on this trail,
which is a combination of trails and bridges winding
up the hill.
monticello trail is also
useful as a picnic spot
when alex leaves work early...
which is not often enough.

hutch speaks a lot of typical baby gibberish,
and says a couple of words, the most popular being
"YEAH!"
that's how he responds to all questions,
which makes him seem very agreeable and affirming. (do not be decieved)
a great example:
me: hutch, do you think i'm pretty?
h: YEAH!
me: the prettiest girl you've ever seen?
h: YEAH!
this is an especially important conversation
now that i'm almost five months pregnant.
on thursday, we were eating dinner on the deck,
and alex was slow in getting out there.
hutch craned his neck around peered in the kitchen at alex and yelled,
"DAD-DY!!"
needless to say,
alex was pleased.

last weekend
we once again loaded the fam
on a plane
and headed to my friend lara's wedding
in galveston.
poor hutch has already
been to 14 states.
since lake jackson is closeby,
we were able to have some
city of enchantment time
and see the local habitat for humanity build,
which both my parents are
heavily involved in.
when we visited the site,
some inmates were just taking a break
and were smitten with hutchy.
it was pretty cute.
they really wanted him in their group picture,
and who could argue with that?
rare opportunity for a one-year-old.
