at this time a year ago,
i couldn't fathom the time would come
when hutch would actually be a year old.
the end of my pregnancy/arrival of hutch
was rough to say the least.
bed rest for a month, delivering five weeks early,
36 hours of labor while on medication that made me
sound like anna nicole smith and
puke on the shoes of the lactation nurse.
and, oh, the heartbreak of my beautiful hutch being in the nicu
was more than i thought my heart was able to hold.
i was still in the hospital because i developed a kidney infection,
so every three hours i would head down to the nicu with alex for feeding/cuddle time with hutch,
accessorized with my i.v. and loose hospital gown,
leaving my modesty in my hospital room.
hutch was able to go home before i was,
and i remember watching the nicu nurses pack things
for alex to take home with hutch.
alex made a remark about how this was
"just like going camping," to which the nurses responded
with nervous glances
and courtesy laughs.
my husband, who never ceases to amaze me, was (and is)
so steadfast and nurturing to both
hutch and me.
the emotional scars from those difficult couple of weeks
are still there,
but are much, much softer.
and here we are a year later,
with a happy, healthy, and busy dreamboat
who has a
wide, impish grin
and alex's quick wit.
he goes quite well
with the love of my life
and myself,
and i dare say we will keep him.

..our lives became a whole lot sweeter.
tomorrow is a very special day.

cALi Pt.2: L.A., BrO

phase two of our trip
found us trekking from
san diego to la
so alex could attend a
conference.
we spent the day at laguna beach along the way
(at this point i feel
it must be said
that it was alex who
started singing the
"laguna beach" theme song
upon arrival).
we stayed in beverly hills,
and every morning
hutch and i would secure our
celebrity-watching glasses
and set out in hopes
of a sighting,
but it turns out
rodeo drive isn't that busy
at 8am...which is
when we were out
and about due to the
three hour time difference in
hutchy's schedule.
however, we did manage some quality sightings:
chris and tami
and more denver folk,
marcus and laura.
nice trip, but nice to be home.

CaLi pT.1: STay Classy sAn DieGO

a couple of weeks ago
we went to california for
a vacay/work(alex) trip.
for the first phase
we met up with
some of our closest friends,
eric and meredith, aka
the colonel and aunt mer.
we played on coronado island
and our good times included,
but certainly weren't limited to:
1. successful fishing for alex and eric
2. kayaking.
3. boating
4. being confronted at gunpoint when said boat
was in navy-operated waters.
5. hutchy in an infant life-jacket
and out on the water!
6. hash-house-a-go-go
7. being with fine friends.
the times were good and flew too quickly...
made us homesick for our entire denver "family"

ChRISTmas SniPPetS

Christmas was lovely this year.
extended time in lake jackson,
lots of good family
and friend time.
hutch was spoiled,
finally got some pearly whites,
and finally went to the beach.
he loved all but the teething thing.
we are so blessed to have our families and
our little bean..very merry indeed.
